Continuation of the 2020 Season

8 Jun 2020 by Eric Geraghty

My fellow Monsters,

Covid has obviously had a negative impact on all of us. Painfully it has kept all of us from playing the sport we all love.

Last weekend we did a private invite game to not only gauge interest but to see if law enforcement or the park district would remove us from the court. We decided against an open invite because word spreads and we can only accommodate so many people. For those who didn’t get an invite there was no personal connection involved in the decisions. Ultimately we wanted to invite guys who didn’t have a crazy commute. Nothing sucks more than doing a long drive and then a game gets interrupted prematurely or doesn’t happen at all.

The private game concluded without interference so based on that our season will start back up this Sunday 6/14/2020.

The management team is implementing the following requirements:

1. If you’re sick or if a close family member you’re in contact with is currently positive for covid then PLEASE DO NOT sign up or show up to the games. This is a safety measure for everyone.

2. Only sign up for ONE GAME. We will be doing a 8am and 930am timeslots. With other leagues down I expect we will have a ridiculous amount of signups. If demand requires we will open up a 11am time slot. If you do not read this or follow it and sign up for multiple games then management will remove you from one of the games of their choice.

3. Games will be capped at 18 players per game. That includes two goalies. There will be no exception. if you show up to a game expecting we will fit you in when all the slots are filled then you are mistaken. You must have management approval to overfill a game. Reasons for this is to try and respect social distancing as much as you can with a hockey game. Goalies will be first come first serve for the intial game but after that I will go back to the rotation system so it’s fair.

4. For June and July since spots are limited if you signup for a game and no call no show then you will be suspended from playing until September. Your names look great on paper but when you bail and don’t tell us it makes us wait and it f’s up the teams. So just don’t do it! Be responsible, we don’t judge on why you can’t play we honestly don’t care. Just need to know either way.

5. Ultimately I want these games to serve our Hockey Monsters population. Management will reserve the right to drop a inconsistent attendance player with a consistent one. As mentioned we could see a lot of non hockey monsters players wanting to get in on the games because there is no other hockey right now.
